Miles, the son of Chrissy Teigen and John Legend has a health update.
The 6-year-old son of the Cravings author revealed on Instagram on Wednesday that he had been diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes.
Teigen commented, “Love u guys!!!!” next to the picture.
After fans noticed Miles’ monitor on his arm in a photo Teigen posted earlier this week from the 2024 Paris Olympics, Teigen explained that she felt compelled to share the news of Miles’ diagnosis.
“A lot of you noticed something a little special about a photo I posted a few days ago,” she wrote alongside a picture of her, Miles and Luna holding up signs with Simone Biles’ name on them from the games. “Luna, Miles and I celebrating Simone and Team USA. Miles had his arm up, and so many of you reached out to say the most beautiful and incredible words I have ever witnessed on this platform.”
She continued, “You noticed his type -1 diabetes monitor and extended so much love and encouragement in every way possible. I was and am, so blown away by the kindness of this community already. I know. Things could be so much worse!! So many parents around the world are going through unfathomable things that I could never imagine. I tell myself this every time we get a red alert blasted to our phones. And we are so blessed to have so much help and wonderful, kind, huge-hearted specialists.”
“Type 1 diabetes, once known as juvenile diabetes or insulin-dependent diabetes, is a chronic condition,” according to the Mayo Clinic. “In this condition, the pancreas makes little or no insulin. Insulin is a hormone the body uses to allow sugar (glucose) to enter cells to produce energy. Different factors, such as genetics and some viruses, may cause type 1 diabetes. Although type 1 diabetes usually appears during childhood or adolescence, it can develop in adults. Even after a lot of research, type 1 diabetes has no cure.”
Teigen continued, “Miles got diagnosed after getting sick at camp with shigella.” Despite contracting the same disease as the other children, his blood testing showed abnormalities, according to the doctors.

“A lot of his friends were also sick with it, as they all went to the same camp and well, it happens,” she said in part. “But the doctors knew something else was off about his blood tests. I’ve learned since then that this is how so many young children end up being diagnosed with type-1 going to the hospital for something different. After more testing, we learned he is in the ‘honeymoon period’ of a lifetime of T1. Last night we gave him his first shot of insulin and here we go! A different, new world for us and we are certainly learning so much on the fly.”
Teigen continued by saying that the message served as a thank-you for all of the encouragement.
“This post is to thank you so much for your kindness,” she replied in response. “It helps Miles so much to know so many other people are going through the same thing and he is not alone.”
After sharing a picture of the book Year One With Type-1 and describing how she and Legend read it to their son, the Sports Illustrated model broke down in tears on social media.
“John and I read it to Miles last night, and I burst into tears at this page and had to leave the room so he couldn’t see me sobbing,” she penned. “He already has a deep love for the book. In any case, you are not alone! We also pledge to support you guys in the same way that you have supported us thus far.”
Teigen’s well-known acquaintances and supporters responded positively to her remarks.
Nick Jonas, who has had Type 1 diabetes since he was a young adolescent, expressed approval of the article. Teigen said on social media that she and her family met Jonas at the Olympics, and that he treated Miles really well.
“My two brothers have T1, love that book.
@nickjonas does too, your son should go meet bad ass people, and see he’s not alone and can still accomplish anything. It’s scary but it becomes second nature and you guys will rock it,” the user wrote.
“Nick treated him so kindly!” she exclaimed to the commenter. “We were so lucky to run into him.”
In addition, Teigen and Legend are the parents of three children: Luna, age eight, Wren, age one; and Esti, age one. The pair made an appearance at the Olympic opening ceremony in Paris last week, along with their two eldest children.
“opening ceremonies! Sure, it was a little (a lot) rainy, but wowowowowow absolutely epic experience (and got to see a few of my favorite people!),” she captioned a post with a few photos.
In addition, Teigen posted the photo of herself, Miles, and Luna that she had posted with her post regarding Miles’ diagnosis on Sunday.
