A mother in Oregon is facing her worst nightmare after waking up from a five-hour nap to find her 5-year-old autistic son missing.
The body of **Joshua James McCoy** was found less than two miles from his home, three days after he wandered off while his mom was asleep.
### The Disappearance
On November 9, around 1 p.m., the mother took a nap with her son, Joshua. When she woke up around 5:30 p.m., he was no longer beside her. The **Coos County Sheriff’s Office** said the boy, who had autism, was reported missing shortly after sundown that Saturday.
### Search for the Missing Boy
Missing Kids, a child safety organization, stated: “Children on the autism spectrum may go missing more often than other kids. They might wander off to escape loud noises or bright lights or to find a place that calms them.”
When police arrived, the mother, identified as **Angela German**, said her son had a cellphone. However, tracking the phone didn’t give any useful information. Authorities quickly issued alerts, describing Joshua as **3-foot-6** and mentioning that he responded to “Josh” or “Joshie,” but might not react when called.
The police warned that too many people searching could disturb evidence. They said, “We worry that too many searchers could miss or damage important clues.”

The morning after Joshua went missing, the sheriff’s office posted on Facebook, saying the search was getting more serious. They used **drones**, detectives, and other resources. A pond on the property was even drained, but nothing was found.

The police statement read: “It is with great sadness that we report missing Joshua McCoy has been found deceased.” They explained that Joshua was found **1.6 miles** from his home, which is almost two miles away by road.

Joshua’s father, **Lawson Amos McCoy**, who lives in Ohio, posted a touching message on Facebook with a sweet photo of his son. He wrote, “My precious baby! Bless you, my love. I’ll miss you for the rest of my life.”
